William Fairbanks (1920-1954) served as a Radioman/Gunner in the South Pacific during World War II. He flew in a B-25 bomber which was part of the 345th Bomber Wing, 501st Bomb Squadron, stationed at Clark Field in the Philippines, Nadzab in Papua New Guinea and Ie Shima (part of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan). The 345th escorted the Japanese envoys to the surrender in Manila at the end of the war. His scrapbook is in the Homeville Collection, and it includes hundreds of unique images from his Army service.
